2025 Wrap up

Late to the party but it was a strange old year overall… covered Glasgow Film Festival… my grandmother who we all believed wouldn’t last to see March AKA “Lazarus” is still with us having celebrated her 97th birthday last month. There was cancer diagnosis, all of which was removed with no further treatment… theatre trips abound to see the full fat ledge that is Greg Davies. In which he extols the virtues and horrific aspects of an ageing body… Annie Ernaux’s The Years, adapted by Eline Arbo and depicting each version of Annie (via a quintet of extraordinary actresses); writer, student, activist, wife, daughter, lover, grandmother… plush afternoon tea at Drury Lane…

My adoration for Sinners became my whole personality for a while. Adamant it would be my film of the year (and it was, until November)…

Theatre trips continued with Marc Rosenblatt’s Giant in which Elliott Levey and John Lithgow gave Oliver-Award-winning respective turns as publisher Tom Maschler and Roald Dahl. It was a double nostalgia hit to watch BZ (Barnaby Zorp) from Santa Claus: The Movie play my childhood’s favourite author in all his talented and heinous glory… Joan a Policewoman… Lord Huron… Inside No.9: Stage Fright… my LFF was a bit of a disaster… new babies arrived – two boys, the first for almost two decades, cousin Freddie and new (first) nephew Seth, big sis Phoebe is beside herself… The Importance of Being Earnest (Olly Alexander, Nathan Stewart Jarrett, Stephen Fry and a handbag; raucous and joyful)… Burnout hit long after Christmas and I saw in the New Year fighting a lurgy that would not leave…
